Recipient of the esteemed Geographical Association Publishers’ Silver Award in 2015, “You, Me and Diversity” presents educators and aspiring teachers with innovative methodologies for instilling children with the principles of development education and fostering intercultural understanding, all through a meticulously curated selection of picturebooks.

Unveiling a troubling revelation from a 2007 study by the United Kingdom Literacy Association, where the scarcity of awareness among educators regarding such literature was unveiled, the narrative delves into the challenges faced by teachers in identifying contemporary literary resources for classroom use. Thanks to the generous support from Irish Aid’s DICE (Development and Intercultural Education) initiative, this book emerges as a beacon, illuminating the path for educators to harness the vast reservoir of captivating and relevant modern picturebooks, each delicately addressing pressing contemporary issues.

Dr. Dolan, with astute analysis and insightful guidance, not only critiques a handpicked selection of these transformative books but also offers invaluable advice on integrating them seamlessly into classroom instruction. From poignant tales of climate change to narratives of migration and social justice, the directory within encompasses a rich spectrum of recent picturebooks. These literary gems serve as vehicles for exploring diverse themes, from the seismic aftermath of the Haiti earthquake to the enduring struggles for civil rights. Underpinning this comprehensive resource is a meticulously crafted framework that empowers educators to provide students with a holistic array of developmental and intercultural perspectives, all while ensuring alignment with literacy standards.

A compelling call to action resonates throughout the narrative, urging every primary school educator and student teacher to embark on this transformative journey.
